Can't afford Mc Cain/Palin

John Mc Cain says he will reach to the Democrats to solve America's problems. That's swell. I wish I could believe him, but I'd have to be pretty gullible. John Mc Cain likes to claim he's a maverick that bucks his own party when he feels he should. Also swell. But not as noble as one might think. Over Mc Cain's long Senate career he's had angry and sometimes violent run-ins with colleagues, both Democrat and Republican. He is reviled by both parties, not revered. The notion that Mc Cain can bring people together on anything is a stretch.

Mc Cain also says he will change how lobbyists work in DC. Does he mean his entire campaign staff? Is he that naive his lobbyist laden group of loyalists that tell him what to do and say to win aren't going to want something in return for their efforts? The new Mc Cain likes to sing the praises of the old Mc Cain that was an illusion in the first place. In the past few years Mc Cain has sponsored election reform that he himself violated. He was adamantly opposed to torture and bravely told Bush he would not support the Military Commissions Act of 2006. Until he did. He has reneged on his own immigration reform bill. Admitting that he would not vote for it today. I think it's fine if someone changes their mind, but while arguing for this bill, Mc Cain called a Republican colleague an a$$hole and magnified that by claiming he wouldn't call him one if he really didn't believe he was. He was so convinced he was right at the time, he'd insult someone and embarrass himself on the Senate floor. It just seems to me he's not just changing his mind. He's pandering.

To think Mc Cain will have the ability to pull off the change he claims he wants would mean he'd turn his back on the Republican base. I like that idea. Only problem is, I can't believe him. I mean if you stand on principle and fight for it with everything you've got, then cave because it is politically expedient to do so, I can't believe you. I'd be a fool to do so. Mc Cain has repeatedly lied about Obama's policies and plans. From tax cuts to chasing terrorists. If he didn't need to lie to make himself look better qualified, he wouldn't. Mc Cain likes to say he'd chase Osama bin Laden to the gates of hell with a creepy little smile. Yet has criticized Barack's statement that he would act to take out bin Laden in Pakistan of we had solid intelligence and the Pakistani government would not act. Frankly, I'd think most hawks would applaud that statement, not dismiss it as being reckless as Mc Cain has.

Senator Mc Cain's first big test as Presidential hopeful was his VP pick. What a miserable failure. I'm sure he doesn't intend on dying in office but choosing Sarah Palin was simply a maneuver to get votes he couldn't get on his own. Whether one likes her or not, it can not be credibly said that she was the most qualified candidate. Her speech at the RNC showed she was willing to lie about her record and willing to mock her opponents record. What kind of a despicable person actually derides service as a community organizer? Sarah Palin that's who.

Her short tenure as Mayor of a town of 5,000 was by all accounts a failure on every level. She fired almost everyone she could because of a lack of loyalty to her but was rebuked by the town and almost recalled when she went after the town librarian. She refused to ban books Sarah Palin might find objectionable. Do we really want this kind of a person running our country? While Mayor, she hired a lobbying firm to win 27 million in federal pork. She raised taxes on small businesses and the middle class. Despite this she left office with the town 22 million in debt. She claims she is against these things. How could we possibly trust her? We just met her!

As Governor she wasted no time in abusing her office. She tried repeatedly to have her ex-brother in-law fired. When his conduct was reviewed and his punishment served she was not satisfied. She continued to harass his boss until she finally fired him. She championed a pork project her friend Senator Ted Stevens, now facing 7 indictments for bribery, invented a scheme called the "bridge to nowhere." Today, she claims she opposed it and told DC she didn't want that waste of money. Only after Congress had all but killed it and Stevens was getting reamed by the press. But Alaska still got the funds set aside for it. Her claim that she stood up the old boy network is hollow. She manipulated that network all the way to becoming the Vice Presidential nominee for the Republican Party. She used it to get millions in pork barrel spending she now claims she has always been against.

We can't afford these two. They claim they are for change but have offered nothing to convince us they are capable of it. Mc Cain's claim he wants to reform Washington isn't feasible based on his campaign staff and his reversal on recent positions he clung to previously. This has lead me to believe he is simply saying whatever he needs to to get elected. He's embracing an ideology he railed against, policies he's fought for he's surrendered meekly. Beyond that his temperament is legendary. He is a bi-partisan offender. I can't trust him to not act like he has in the past, rash and indignant. We can't afford that kind of leader right now. And how foolish of him to allow our hopes to be tied to such an inept candidate as Sarah Palin.

She is worse. The more we learn about her, the more we must eliminate her as a possible President. She isn't honest about her record, which is no surprise because it's so poor. We barely know who she is and yet she is refusing to be interviewed by the press. Her supporters absurdly cry of sexism and treating her poorly. This is merely a ruse, a distraction to lure our attention away from her obvious shortcomings. She lies with impunity. Factcheck.org easily verifies many of them. She is giving us no real reason to believe she will deliver on any of the promises she makes if we can't trust her tell the truth. She became Governor on a platform of government transparency, but is currently withholding emails from an investigation the state legislature authorized and she welcomed. Her lawyers are now trying to stonewall the investigation and have tried to have the investigator removed. Please America, don't fall for the same routine again.

Next up, why Obama and Biden are the right choice for right now.
