Troopegate
Troopergate. No, not the debunked myth about Bill Clinton using the Arkansas State Troopers as an escort service. Troopergate Alaska style. Don't be fooled. The righties are lying about this too trying to claim this is a partisan attack. Here are some quick facts:
Governor Sarah Palin has been accused of abusing her office in trying to get her ex-brother in law, a State Trooper, fired. She initially welcomed an investigation and promised absolute transparency. A bi-partisan state senate panel voted unanimously to begin an investigation.
Since Palin's nomination for VP on Mc Cain's ticket, his campaign have actively sought to suppress this investigation. Palin has now refused to turn over emails siting executive privilege. Sound familiar? Palin is now refusing to cooperate on other levels, at the very least reneging on her pledge.
The righties say that the trooper deserved it anyway. Typical. Abuse of power is abuse of power, corruption is corruption. But these guys are ok with it as long one of their own is abusing that power. The claims that this is a Democratic witch hunt is also false. Another myth, Obama and the Democratic Party are responsible for the investigation. The reality is, it's Mc Cain who is meddling in state affairs.
Palin's comments have not been consistent. Evidence has been collected that prove her staffers as well as her husband pressured this trooper's boss until he was eventually fired by Palin. The charges against the trooper are years old and had already been dealt with officially including a paid suspension. This wasn't just about a concerned Governor trying to clean up law enforcement. Her sister was involved in a long and bitter custody battle. The state legislature was right to overwhelmingly favor an investigation.
The results of this investigation are expected to be announced in early October, 3 weeks earlier than planned. A date in which Palin's lawyer desperately tried to delay until after the election. Currently there are several people close to the governor facing the possibility of subpoenas as they are refusing to cooperate. Sound familiar? Do we really need this again? Do we need another Dick Cheney?
The sad truth is, Palin appears to have used her office for political vendetta unless the investigator the state appointed is lying for some reason. This is her M.O. She fired everyone in her little village she was mayor of too, for loyalty reasons. Not only is this far from open and transparent it's a violation of ethical standards. It's, as I stated earlier, an abuse of power. And she's the best the Republican's have to succeed John Mc Cain?
